My two boys! Felix loves his PupPup. Eli loves taking care of his little Masta.

Every night, when Felix is asleep, Eli will walk up to Felix's bed, check to see if he's OK & then wag his tail when all is clear. It is a great bond that these two are forming. I'm happy to see it!

Allan a road Nature Trail

In the heart of Mission Hills, right off of Ft. Stockton Rd. is a road that was never completed. In its place is a rough nature trail that runs from the rim of Mission Valley, down to Hotel Circle at the bottom.

Although the path is well established, this trail is rough in batches, with downed trees, stands of prickly cacti, and weeds over growing the trail.

So when you see Espresso Mio, park on Ft. Stockton and walk down the road behind the cafe. A nice trail awaits.

Hiking SD - Sweetwater River Bridge

New Years Day Hike with my son and dog.

After a long night of revelry, what my body and soul needed was an hour away from it all. I packed up my son and my puppy and headed east...destination Unknown. My son spied a "creepy bridge" just off State Route 94 so we grabbed our burgers and found a shady spot under a canopy of trees.

From there, we got lost on the trails.

Bird Rock / Nautilus St / La Jolla CA

One of the most beautiful and most expensive stretches in all of San
Diego is right on the shore along Coast & Nautilus St. The hypnotic
Pacific surf, beautiful homes and oceans breezes makes it one hellava
spot for "Serenity Now".

Balboa Park is vast! Check it out on any map of Downtown San Diego and see how it spreads out through many neighborhoods in the core of the city.

Throughout the park, there are trails that snake through trees, crosses bridges, cuts through canyons and provides wonderful vistas where the city lays out before you.

Daily Specials at Santa Fe Meats

Santa Fe Meats in Chula Vista is a unique Butcher Shop / Taco Shop!
You can order a pound of freshly sliced, then prepared carne asada.
While you are waiting for the butcher to prepare your meat, you can
order a couple of carne asada tacos from the taco shop counter.

They have daily specials, as well as a standard taco shop menu. On my
recent visit there, everyone at the six stool counter was eating the
same thing, Mole!

I would have done the same, but it was only 11am, much too early to
eat such a heavy meal.

I am really looking forward to trying the pozole one day.

In the meantime, I bought two pounds of the carne asada that I will be
grilling with Sonoran mesquite charcoal while I heat my tortillas on
my comal! I am heading to the park to grill this meat, Mexican style.

Bridge & Off Ramp to Nowhere

Off the 163, as it ribbons through Balboa Park, is this bridge & off ramp to nowhere.

On the northbound side, the Richmond Ave exit exists. Southbound it seems like it was built, then abandoned, making for an eeire sight as you hike the Bridle Trail on the west side of the freeway.

Skaters use this bridge, probably built in the late 40s, as a place to film their exploits and grinds.

Hiking Balboa Park

Loved taking Eli on a hike this afternoon. We got good exercise, fresh air and a fresh perspective of the great green oasis called Balboa Park.

This short trail goes from Sixth & Upas on the west side of the park, down a slight grade to run parallel to 163, a mile or so to Cabrillo Bridge, before heading back uphill ending at Nate's Point Dog Park.

Good times!

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Use your standard banana bread recipe with a few alterations. Replace one quarter of sugar with brown sugar. Add 1tsp of rum and half cup of chocolate chips.

Serve with orange zest butter.

Moist with equal flavor of chocolate & banana.
